Luminous and Voluminous
Lighthearted and geometric, Ray Power’s Nut Pendant lamp ($310) is elegant and natural, in spite of its perfect knot shape. Love the cherry veneer and graceful lines. On the one hand the simplicity of its design confers an airy appearance; on the other hand, the veneer confers a pleasantly warm aspect to its surroundings. It’s reminiscent of the modish designs of the 1960s. It’s dated but sumptuous. It’s simple and softly beautiful. We love lamp.

Courtesy of Barneys New York, these Hobbs & Kent inlay cufflinks ($200) are the best deal in town. They’re only $149 (discounted from $300) and extremely versatile. They’ll match any suit color and can be dressed up and down. The cobblestone pattern is casual enough to look right at home with tailored jeans, and the reversible onyx and pearly oyster colors are sleek enough for a sharply cut suit. It’s a variation on the black and tan that we find incredibly refreshing.

Tourism is down everywhere, but hotels in Hawaii are feeling an intense pinch, as their occupancy fell to 66% overall compared to 77% in March of last year. Average room rates are also tumbling (across the islands, the average is now $182 per night, which is a drop of nearly 20%). While this is bad news for the freaked-out hotel owners, it’s excellent news for you, as not only are prices down but you can also go and not be trampled by tourists (which is usually a problem in the 50th state). We suggest looking up The Mauna Lani Bay, which is offering up free fifth nights and special rates celebrating the 50th anniversary of the archipelago’s statehood. Not only is it a phenomenal private beach resort, but it’s also one of the most eco-friendly hotels on the planet. [USA Today]

Earlier in the week, we shed a single tear for the loss of Berlin’s old European charm. You know what city retains said charm? Prague. The heart of the Czech Republic has bridges to all brands of classic European architecture, design, art and food. Right now, Go-Today has a great set of air-inclusive six-day package deals that range from the dirt cheap ($699) to the extravagant ($2,519). We recommend the Movenpick Hotel, which offers panoramic views of the city both from the rooms and the attached cable car. [Go Today]

It’s no secret that hotels are slashing prices perhaps even more than airlines — because after all, a room sold at half off is better than a room not sold at all. While most properties are trying to fill in their mid-level rooms with price cuts while still reserving top-dollar rates for the suites, Morgans Hotel Group is cutting down rates on some of the best rooms in some of their plushest properties.

Suzanne’s Files just got back from Barbados and stayed at one of our favorite properties: Elsewhere, a fabulous villa. We’re especially taken with the hanging gardens, but you may prefer the free form layouts and stunning waterscaping. Best of all, they’ve got a deal where you can get the fifth or seventh night free — a tremendous deal for this level of service. Who wants to go with us? [Suzanne’s Files]
