If, when you say “I Do,” you want to pledge your love not only to each other, but to Mother Earth, too, kudos to you—you’re part of a new generation of conscious couples. Now, how do you begin coordinating all the details that go into an eco-friendly wedding? Here are a few Web sites that claim to help make your dream green day a reality.
Altar Action
Rated as the No. 1 green wedding site by Martha Stewart Weddings and the New York Post, [Portovert.com](http://www.portovert.com) is a stylish site that contains useful information for much of your green wedding needs. Broken up into categories like “Real Weddings,” “Lookbook” and “Articles,” you can browse through Portovert’s blog posts, city offerings and real stories of how people created their environmentally friendly nuptials. You can also search for sustainable reception locations, caterers, gowns, invitations, rings and bands, and more.
Although the idea behind the site is praiseworthy, it’s a bit tricky to navigate. When I clicked on “Gowns,” for instance, only three popped up, and one had no information listed. The people behind Portovert hope to inspire change the world over—and maybe they will—but they need a little Web makeover first.
Getting the Guests Involved
Instead of raking in a fancy espresso machine you’ll never use (and that has traveled way too many miles and gone overboard on packaging), ask your wedding guests to log onto [www.carbonfootprint.com](http://www.carbonfootprint.com/shopweddinglist.html). After you set up a personalized webpage, guests can help you celebrate by donating money to an environmental cause of your choice, like curbing climate change or protecting wildlife.
Over the Moon
Your honeymoon is one of the most memorable trips you’ll take in your life, and you want it to be special—and make a difference. [Elevatedestinations.com](http://www.elevatedestinations.com) helps you become a travel philanthropist by donating a percentage of trip proceeds to nonprofits in the various countries it works with. You can also donate directly through the website if you see a locale that pulls at your heartstrings. From New Zealand to Zimbabwe, your après-wedding adventure can help support a society in need.
